Every few months, your bed should be thoroughly cleaned to remove dust, dead skin cells, perspiration, and body oils. As normal, take off and wash your linens. Using a garment steamer, thoroughly clean the top, sides, and box spring of your mattress to eliminate any dust mites that might be hiding close to the surface. Next, go over your mattress once more using the upholstery tool on your vacuum. (This will eliminate the dust mites that have been killed by steaming.) Use a carpet and upholstery cleaner to get rid of any stains without getting the mattress too wet.
Step-by-step instructions for thoroughly cleaning your mattress
1. Clean the bedding.
Remove all of the linen from your bed, including the mattress protectors, blankets, pillowcases, and pads. Wash your linens on a washing cycle that utilizes the hottest water safe for the fabric of the sheets (see the care tag) after pre-treating any stains. According to Forté, “the hotter the water, the more bacteria you kill,” Additionally, wash your pillows while you are at it!
2. Use an upholstery tool to vacuum.
Using your vacuum cleaner’s upholstery tool is the simplest method of dust removal. Doing this every few months is a smart idea, or more frequently if there is an allergy sufferer in the household.
Examine the mattress’s top, sides, and as much of the box spring as you can reach. To extract dust from beneath the surface, tap the instrument or apply a strong press.
Next, enter the quilting using the crevice tool, along the edge welting, and where any pillow top is fastened. In order to better collect dust, some more recent models of vacuums now have instruments that vibrate against upholstery and mattress textiles.
